Specialist Orthodontic Treatment

A straight and beautiful smile works wonders for your self-confidence and balances the way your teeth work together – making them much easier to clean, resulting in less chance of cavities or even gum disease. Misaligned teeth not only affect your smile and facial aesthetic, they may also affect your ability to speak and eat.

At the Staines Centre of Dental Excellence, we provide specialist orthodontic treatment at the practice and are able to offer patients a range of traditional orthodontic options as well as Invisalign. More information about Invisalign can be found here.

Fixed Appliances

Fixed appliance treatment (braces) remains the most commonly used appliances, offering maximum precision in controlling teeth movement to achieve ideal results and a perfect smile.

Options available to patients include metal, ceramic (tooth-coloured) and appliances fitted behind the teeth (lingual braces). The placement of fixed appliances is pain free, with adjustments usually required at 4–6-week intervals. Occasionally if breakages occur, then a separate appointment would be scheduled in between visits.

3D scanning

We have the latest 3D technology – allowing us pinpoint accuracy, utilising optical and laser scanning. Using our scanner for impressions eliminates the need for traditional impressions, which some patients may find uncomfortable.

FAQ

Am I suitable for teeth straightening?
Treatment usually starts once all of the adult teeth have erupted. Sometimes dental extractions may need to be undertaken before commencing fixed appliance treatment, if space is required to correct the position of the teeth. All fixed appliance treatment is
followed by retention.

How long will treatment take?
The duration of treatment can vary between 6-18 months depending on the individual needs of the patient and the complexity of their case.

Brace Care
There can be some discomfort for 2-4 days following placement of your fixed appliance. This is normal and can be controlled by mild painkillers such as paracetamol. After this time, you’ll be able to eat a normal variety of foods however – you should avoid certain foods and drinks, such as hard sweets and fizzy drinks as these can damage the appliance and your teeth. Brush your teeth for 2 minutes at least twice a day and follow the cleaning routine provided by your orthodontist to maintain oral hygiene throughout your treatment.
